Bread cutting bars are an indispensable tool for local bakers. They help to cut home-baked bread evenly and quickly.
Although their design varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, they are generally rectangular boxes with three sides. Both sides have grooves that act as conductors and the bottom is a continuous surface that is used to hold the bread and (in some cases) to catch the crumbs.
To use it, place the bread between the side slits and cut it with a knife. Bread knives work best because they cut better and are long enough to be tightened in the slots on the other side.
As long as your bread fits in these slots, you can cut any type of bread with these guides: French bread, artisanal, yeast, rye. But most people use them to cut bread to get ordinary sandwiches and other things.

One might think that it is quite easy to find a good cutting guide, especially since people have been making bread at home for centuries. But it is indeed a great challenge! Most of the manuals we use are too fragile or annoying to use.

First of all, the best piece of bread (which we call BBS from now on) was made by someone like us who thought that the products now available on the market were of poor quality. It’s not a big company. Maybe that’s why you’ve never heard of them.

In addition, the BBS is probably not the cheapest cutting guide you can find. It’s probably the most expensive. We’re not gonna make it prettier than it is. But we believe in paying for very good products.
Nowadays, low prices are often synonymous with poor quality and many disappointments. And you end up spending more to replace them. So we think it’s gonna be okay the first time.

The guide is made of pine wood – yes, natural wood. You can smell it from the box. Pine is a soft tree, so the knife will be light. But the compromise is the mark on your knife.
However, the design of this manual is robust. He weighs about 5 pounds and feels very strong.
What we like most about this guide is that it is a natural product. It’s not something made of artificial materials. You can see the beautiful details of the pine forest. The wood is stained with coffee or tea – again very natural – and finished with harmless mineral oil and beeswax. The end result is a beautiful and safe product.
Because it is made of natural wood, it sometimes needs to be oiled and waxed. We only use olive oil and beeswax.
When using a guide, there are four grooves for the two split edges. So you can place them according to the size of the bread. Interestingly, the horizontal pens of the Zojirushi BB-PAC20 cooker are ideal for this cutting guide, as if it were specially designed for this purpose.
The high side slots are a big plus. You can cut thin and thick slices as the guide comes with slots of different sizes.
To cut the bread, we advise you to put a towel under the bread to catch the crumbs. And when you’re done, just remove the crumbs from the guide brush.
The guide is not dishwasher safe and it is best to keep it dry at all times because of the wood. If you need to clean it, just wash it by hand with soap and water and store it dry.
The guide is easy to set up and save. Just take the rubber sides and push them down.
